My computer keeps resetting itself, any ideas? Author: Gavin Chapman |
 | This user had built himself a new computer and had tried a number of things to try and resolve the problem - all of them sensible, these included reformatting the hard disk and reinstalling Windows.
I suggested setting the BIOS settings to their safest level since this sounded like a possible overclocking problem. I also suggested disconnecting all hardware such as hard drives and cd-roms and reintroducing them one at a time to see if the problem was caused by faulty hardware. Other candidates for interference often come from USB devices. As another check to bypass the hard disc, boot off a cd-rom (most computer magazines have Linux LiveCD images on them). Comments: The user replied to my suggestions having found the problem before trying my options - the actual problem, as he said was:
Had a clash as had two firewalls installed and didnt know you wasnt supposed to. sorted now. and there was a nasty virus which is now gone.
